The Giclée Process
From original to your wall
Every Giclée Makers print begins with an original painting and ends in your home as a museum-grade reproduction, faithful to the artist’s every brushstroke. Here is how we get there.
Captured by specialists
We work with professional fine art reproduction photographers who specialize in capturing original artwork. They shoot at very high resolution under controlled studio lighting, and larger paintings are often captured in sections and seamlessly stitched together.
We then color-match the master file to the original painting itself, not to a screen. For custom orders, we are happy to send a digital proof for your approval first.
The goal is simple: a print so precise it’s often mistaken for the original.
The giclée method
Giclée (pronounced zhee-clay) is the printing method museums and galleries use to reproduce original art. Archival pigment inks are applied at very high resolution, capturing subtle tones and fine detail that conventional printing cannot.
We print on the Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-6600 with Canon’s 12-ink LUCIA PRO II pigment system, for a wide color range and deep, rich blacks.
Museum-grade canvas
Every print is made on Breathing Color Lyve, an archival, OBA-free canvas made in the USA. Without optical brighteners, colors stay accurate under different lighting and the canvas resists yellowing over time.
- 400 gsm poly-cotton blend
- Matte finish with a medium texture
- OBA-free, archival grade
After printing, we hand-coat every canvas with a flat matte finish that cuts glare and helps protect against UV light, moisture and scratches. Under normal indoor display, your artwork is made to last for generations.
Stretched and ready to hang
Each canvas is stretched on 1.5″ kiln-dried wood bars that resist warping. The sides carry a soft, blurred mirror of the artwork’s colors, so nothing is cut from the front and every edge looks clean.
Your artwork arrives ready to hang, with hardware for drywall or wood walls included. Prefer a frame? We offer floating and classic frames on request.
Limited editions & authenticity
Each size is its own limited edition, from 50 prints in the smallest size to 10 in the largest. Every print is numbered within its edition and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity signed by Giclée Makers, listing the title, artist, edition number and production details.
We only print with the artist’s permission, and each artist receives a commission from every sale.
Caring for your artwork
Dust gently with a soft, dry cloth. Keep your canvas away from strong direct sunlight, high humidity and spots directly above a heat source.
