You Don’t Know Me by Peeter Krosmann unfolds as a quiet confrontation with perception - an encounter between what is seen and what is known. The ancient trunk, gnarled and cavernous, rises like a portrait of withheld truths. Within its tangled mass of wood, the ghost of a face seems to flicker - not sculpted, but revealed through erosion and time. Krosmann captures the paradox of identity: the surface that conceals as much as it confesses, the form that bears the marks of all that it has endured yet remains unknowable.

Soft, muted tones of bark and shadow are pierced by tendrils of vivid green, their emergence both tender and defiant. These new growths twist outward like questions breaking through silence, vital against the restrained background. The tension between decay and vitality hums through the composition, suggesting that to exist is to carry both wound and renewal. Each groove, each hollow is rendered with near-sculptural intensity, inviting the viewer to search - and to fail - at fully grasping what lies beneath.

In You Don’t Know Me, Peeter Krosmann turns the natural form into a metaphor for human complexity. The painting becomes a meditation on the boundaries of recognition - how every being, no matter how exposed, retains its secret interior. It reminds us that understanding is not possession, and that the truest essence of life may always remain just beyond the reach of our gaze.
