Life is a Cake
In Life is a Cake - Andrius Miezis builds a monumental layer cake that doubles as a metaphor for existence itself. Each stratum reveals a different texture and tone - from ripe strawberries and glossy flowers to viscous folds of flesh and surreal, bone-like forms. At the top, small houses and cherries rest calmly, as if domestic life and sweetness were the fragile icing over a dense, chaotic foundation. Below, the layers pulse with color and strangeness - nature, body, memory, and desire stacked in uneasy harmony.
The small, doll-like figure at the bottom gazes upward in awe or confusion, emphasizing the absurd scale of life’s construction. Miezis turns the idea of a dessert into a cross-section of human experience - one where every taste and layer hides something unexpected. The smoothness of cream meets the rawness of anatomy, and the familiar turns uncanny.
Life is a Cake invites us to see existence as something layered, rich, and unstable - a confection of contrasts that both delights and unsettles. Miezis’s surreal humor softens the existential edge, suggesting that even when life feels overfilled or uneven, it remains, at its core, irresistibly worth tasting.
