In Mona - Aukse Drazdiene merges the human and the botanical into a delicate surreal unity. A woman’s calm gaze emerges from a labyrinth of intricate flora, her face both a presence and a landscape. Soft hues of lilac, green, and muted ivory guide the composition, while finely drawn textures give the impression of breathing stillness. Each petal, seed, and leaf grows with precision, as though the natural world has adopted a human rhythm.

The surrounding forms pulse with hidden intelligence - heart-shaped blossoms echo emotions, closed buds suggest secrets, and pale blooms shimmer like fragments of memory. Drazdiene’s attention to line and structure transforms each element into part of an organic mechanism, where growth and decay coexist in fragile balance. The fusion of body and plant feels intimate, almost spiritual - a portrait of connection rather than separation.

Mona becomes a reflection on harmony between inner and outer worlds. Through her quiet symbolism and detailed rendering, Drazdiene invites the viewer to contemplate transformation - how identity, like nature, is never fixed but continuously unfolding. The artwork holds a stillness that speaks of life’s persistence, where beauty and vulnerability grow from the same roots

Meet the artist

Aukse Drazdiene

Aukse Drazdiene is a Lithuanian artist whose work unveils a dreamlike world of flora suspended between reality and imagination. Born in Klaipėda in 1974, she graduated from the Kaunas Justinas Vienožinskis Faculty of Arts with a specialization in artistic leather. Since 2020, she has developed her own distinctive mixed technique, combining the precision of graphics with the softness of watercolor. She became a member of the Lithuanian Folk Artists' Union in 2025.

Drazdiene's art is deeply inspired by nature - its forms, textures, and unexpected beauty. Yet her works do not aim to replicate what already exists. Instead, she transforms flowers and plants into mystical, surreal botanical worlds that appear both delicate and monumental. Each piece feels like a quiet meditation, balancing fragility and strength, detail and imagination.
