In Sunflower I - Aukse Drazdiene reimagines the iconic bloom as a celestial structure rather than a mere plant. The sunflower’s spiral geometry unfolds like a living mandala, where every seed and petal seems to breathe in unison. Its textures shift between soft botanical tissue and precise architectural design, forming an intricate meditation on growth, decay, and renewal. The muted palette of greys and greens lends the work a quiet intensity - as if the flower itself were absorbing light rather than reflecting it.

Drazdiene’s attention to micro-patterns invites the viewer into a hypnotic stillness - the kind found only in nature’s repetition and order. The single curved leaf below echoes this rhythm, anchoring the bloom in fragility and grace.

Sunflower I finds a mirrored echo in Sunflower II, where symmetry tightens and the organic flow crystallizes into near-perfect balance. Together they trace a visual dialogue between the infinite and the finite - the pulse of life radiating from one form into another.

Meet the artist

Aukse Drazdiene

Aukse Drazdiene is a Lithuanian artist whose work unveils a dreamlike world of flora suspended between reality and imagination. Born in Klaipėda in 1974, she graduated from the Kaunas Justinas Vienožinskis Faculty of Arts with a specialization in artistic leather. Since 2020, she has developed her own distinctive mixed technique, combining the precision of graphics with the softness of watercolor. She became a member of the Lithuanian Folk Artists' Union in 2025.

Drazdiene's art is deeply inspired by nature - its forms, textures, and unexpected beauty. Yet her works do not aim to replicate what already exists. Instead, she transforms flowers and plants into mystical, surreal botanical worlds that appear both delicate and monumental. Each piece feels like a quiet meditation, balancing fragility and strength, detail and imagination.
