In Migle Kosinskaite’s Double I, a human face emerges as both familiar and surreal - a portrait that balances between animal instinct and human poise. The subject’s gaze is steady yet enigmatic, framed by a black cap that transforms the person into something beyond themselves. The blue antlers, impossibly luminous against muted tones, serve as quiet symbols of transformation - growth, strength, and a reach toward the unseen.
Visually, the work is arresting in its restraint. The composition is minimal, but every choice is intentional - the mustard garment grounding the ethereal horns, the grey backdrop amplifying the subject’s pale, searching face. There is something mythic here, as if the viewer is encountering a modern-day spirit caught in the pause between identity and metamorphosis.
When seen alongside Double II, Double I becomes part of a mirrored dialogue - one figure crowned with antlers, the other softened by ears. Together they embody duality: strength and tenderness, wildness and innocence, two sides of the same evolving self.
