With Cranes II, Zivile Rudzikaite-Matuzoniene introduces the first tremor of motion - a subtle shift that ripples through the serene silence of the earlier canvas. The cranes lean forward now, their balance imperfect in a way that feels intentional, prophetic. Their long forms bend to invisible winds; reflections blur, edges sharpen, and the atmosphere tightens as if charged with unseen energy. The palette deepens to soft blues and ash-grey, the calm water now threaded with shadow.

Here, movement begins not with the body but with thought. The painter arranges the flock as though it were a conversation between hesitation and desire. One crane looks outward, its beak cutting through the still air like a question. Another turns inward, drawn toward the mirrored self below. In the subtle distances between them, the artist finds rhythm - the silent pulse of something awakening. The composition is careful yet alive, like a heartbeat rediscovering its tempo after sleep.

If Cranes I was the inhale, Cranes II is the first exhale - the soft, decisive gesture of intention. The cranes have not yet left the earth, but they have already left the safety of complete stillness. The journey has begun in spirit before it begins in flight. Zivile Rudzikaite-Matuzoniene allows this gentle tension to open the way forward - a promise that will find form and freedom in the following canvas, where motion becomes inevitable.
