Mounds in Winter by Zivile Rudzikaite-Matuzoniene is a quiet meditation on the resilience of nature beneath its dormant surface. Layers of earthy tones and misty light create a dialogue between stillness and persistence - a landscape at rest, yet full of unseen energy. The artist’s vertical strokes evoke frozen reeds or sleeping grasses, standing as fragile witnesses to the slow passage of the season.

The painting balances abstraction and realism with poetic precision. Cool light filters through the muted horizon, softening the weight of the land below. Each brushstroke feels deliberate and patient, building an atmosphere where silence is alive, where air holds the memory of warmth now subdued. Rudzikaite-Matuzoniene’s sensitivity to tone and texture transforms the landscape into an emotional state - contemplative, grounded, and timeless.

In Mounds in Winter, the artist captures the essence of endurance and quiet renewal. What seems still is, in truth, only waiting. Beneath the frozen calm lies the pulse of life, slow but steady, ready to rise again when the light returns.
