Nijole Stunskaite-Vilke’s Major bursts with bold clarity - a composition where contrast, rhythm, and symbolic geometry converge into a striking visual statement. At the center, a radiant yellow form unfolds like a sunlit web or star, its delicate lines stretching outward with precision and purpose. This luminous shape anchors the artwork, casting a sense of direction and gravitational pull over every surrounding element.

Encircling it, clusters of circular floral motifs -in rich shades of violet, crimson, and rose - appear to orbit or drift across textured black and white quadrants. These contrasting sections, marbled and atmospheric, create a dynamic backdrop that feels both cosmic and organic. White dotted lines trace pathways between forms, giving the impression of constellations, musical notation, or the structured logic of a grand design.

Major reads like a declaration - confident, luminous, and purposeful. Through its interplay of strong contrasts and precise geometry, Stunskaite-Vilke explores themes of order, resonance, and the power of central focus. The artwork becomes a visual “major key,” radiating clarity and intention while inviting the viewer into a world where structure and spontaneity coexist in harmonious tension.

Nijole Stunskaite Vilke

Nijole Stunskaite-Vilke is a multidisciplinary Lithuanian artist whose work seamlessly bridges symbolism, textile artistry, poetry, and contemporary visual expression. She has spent more than four decades cultivating a distinctive artistic language rooted in Baltic mythology, spiritual symbolism, and the quiet emotive power of nature.

Working across textile art, silk painting, illustration, performance, and poetry, Stunskaite-Vilke creates artworks that feel both ancient and modern, deeply connected to cultural memory yet strikingly fresh in execution. Her hand-painted silk pieces, mythological drawings, and symbolic compositions evoke echoes of Ciurlionis, Simonis, and the broader European Symbolist tradition, while maintaining an unmistakably personal signature.

Stunskaite-Vilke is also celebrated for her contributions to Lithuanian cultural heritage. Her work has been exhibited across Lithuania and internationally, with selected collections presented in the United States.
