Nijole Stunskaite-Vilke’s Minuet unfolds like a graceful dance frozen in time - a rhythmic arrangement of repeating figures, arches, and floral mandalas that echo the structured elegance of the classical minuet. Vertical forms rise like cloaked silhouettes or ceremonial columns, each crowned with a luminous floral sphere that glows with warm reds and purples. Their repetition creates a visual cadence, a slow and deliberate choreography across the canvas.

The background blends earthy golds, cool greys, and soft violets, layered with marbled textures that feel both ancient and atmospheric - as though the scene were taking place within a cathedral or an old theatre illuminated by quiet light. At the bottom, intricate circular motifs bloom in rich purples, anchoring the composition with their delicate detail and adding a subtle sense of pulse and ornament.

Minuet becomes a meditation on harmony, ritual, and the beauty of structure. Through repeating forms and refined color transitions, Stunskaite-Vilke captures the poise and restraint of a dance built on balance and grace. The artwork invites the viewer into a world where movement is suggested through stillness, and where symmetry becomes its own form of music - steady, elegant, and timeless.

Nijole Stunskaite Vilke

Nijole Stunskaite-Vilke is a multidisciplinary Lithuanian artist whose work seamlessly bridges symbolism, textile artistry, poetry, and contemporary visual expression. She has spent more than four decades cultivating a distinctive artistic language rooted in Baltic mythology, spiritual symbolism, and the quiet emotive power of nature.

Working across textile art, silk painting, illustration, performance, and poetry, Stunskaite-Vilke creates artworks that feel both ancient and modern, deeply connected to cultural memory yet strikingly fresh in execution. Her hand-painted silk pieces, mythological drawings, and symbolic compositions evoke echoes of Ciurlionis, Simonis, and the broader European Symbolist tradition, while maintaining an unmistakably personal signature.
