To Feel the Wind by Darius Kairaitis captures the delicate, invisible embrace between the human spirit and nature’s breath. The figure, elongated and weightless, stands in still surrender as gusts of wind weave through hair and branches alike. With eyes closed and lips slightly parted, the subject listens to what cannot be seen - the whisper of change, the murmur of life’s quiet persistence. This moment of surrender becomes a portrait of awareness, where air itself becomes a form of touch.

Kairaitis paints the atmosphere with a palette of blue-grays and soft golds, creating a world suspended between melancholy and serenity. His characteristic stylization - gentle distortions, dreamlike proportions - draws emotion out of simplicity. The wind here is not violent but knowing, an unseen guide that moves through both landscape and soul. Each brushstroke trembles with feeling, echoing the hum of unseen energy that surrounds all living things.

In To Feel the Wind, Darius Kairaitis turns an ordinary encounter into an act of transcendence. It is a meditation on presence - on being moved, literally and metaphorically, by forces beyond our control. Through this quiet, poetic image, the artist reminds us that sometimes the most profound sensations are those that cannot be held, only felt.

Meet the artist

Darius Kairaitis

Darius Kairaitis is a Lithuanian painter whose art is as unique as his journey. A self-taught artist, he discovered his passion for painting at the age of 48, proving that creativity knows no age. His works, rich in emotion and originality, have gained recognition both in Lithuania and internationally, captivating audiences with their vibrant colors, symbolic depth, and whimsical charm.

Kairaitis’ signature style features “little figures,” expressive characters that serve as narrators of his stories. In 2020, Kairaitis received permission to incorporate Shustrov’s dolls and their fragments into his work, resulting in several early paintings that beautifully intertwine the sculptor’s motifs with Kairaitis’ unique artistic vision. These figures, often reflecting human emotions and experiences, invite viewers to connect on a deeply personal level. His paintings are a blend of bold textures, soft lines, and intuitive color play, creating pieces that are both visually striking and emotionally resonant.
