Migle Kosinskaite’s Gazelle II is a hauntingly poetic meditation on duality - the tension between instinct and intellect, vulnerability and strength, humanity and the animal world. The portrait captures a young figure whose delicate, introspective gaze contrasts with the surreal presence of striped horns that rise from her head - a visual metaphor for metamorphosis, evolution, and inner defense.

Kosinskaite’s palette is subdued yet deeply intentional: pale skin tones and muted grays are punctuated by a thin, glowing red contour that arcs behind the figure’s head, echoing both a halo and a pulse line - a symbol of vitality that cuts through the stillness of the scene. This red line binds the composition, suggesting an unseen energy or emotional current connecting the human and the mythic.

The work’s title Gazelle II evokes an animal known for grace, alertness, and survival - qualities mirrored in the sitter’s quiet but defiant presence. The subtle textures across the canvas, from the etched lines near the base to the faint abstractions around the face, allude to erosion, time, and memory - as though fragments of identity are surfacing and dissolving within the same breath.

Kosinskaite’s treatment of light and surface reveals her mastery of psychological realism infused with symbolic surrealism. The figure’s eyes, simultaneously distant and aware, invite reflection on how beauty, fragility, and resilience coexist within us.

In Gazelle II, the viewer encounters not just a portrait but an emotional state - a distilled representation of transformation and quiet strength that transcends boundaries between species, gender, and reality itself.
